Rogelio T. Gloria, a candidate for the Senate from California who attracted 19,041 votes in last week’s primary, has filed a report with the FEC that combines Twitter, federal matching funds (which don’t exist for Senate races) and contributions/expenditures totaling a “low” estimate of $24 million. For tweeting. From the report

Sure enough, if you look at the subsequent pages of the filing, Gloria has recorded 8 “contributions” of $3 million each, presumably to cover the cost of sending out those tweets, and recorded matching expenditures with labels such as “Twitter Tweet #1” and “Remind fans last day to vote in CA is” (he also sent out a tweet thanking people for voting).

So, did he employ some kind of mass-tweeting program? Or did he, as we all would, copy the same tweet over and over, sending it to (among others) the Dalai Lama, Wayne Rooney and Beyonce? I think you know the answer:
