Timely Disclosure!
The Strong Utah PAC has one weakness: filing reports on time. Despite running independent expenditures in support of Orrin Hatch way back in March, it neglected to file an April Quarterly report for five months, when it finally came in on Aug. 28. This despite entreaties from the FEC in May and July. Yay, disclosure!

Need some seed money for that foundation started in your name? The campaign committee of the late Rep. Tom Lantos, Democrat of California, who died in 2008, recently closed its account after spending its final $827,963.52. The largest chunk of that, $801,408.24, went to the Lantos Foundation for Human Rights & Justice, based in New Hampshire and chaired by Lantos’ wife, Annette. It also...

GUYS, the FEC asked the Victory PAC about its new address last December and again in February, and Victory PAC is ON IT. Well, a little late, but still.

Dear Debbie
Losing a primary campaign is bad enough. But then the FEC keeps bothering you, asking where your reports are, even though you called them after your crushing defeat and told them that there is “zero to report.” Sometimes you need to be firm, like Donna Glisman.

This process is  excruciatingly time consuming,...

Vacation + Dinner = Forgot to File
We’ve all been there - you leave on vacation and then, when you come back, it’s tough to get back in the flow of things. Mistakes are made, like at the PAC of the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association. Best to throw yourself upon the mercy of the FEC: Dear Federal Election Commission Analyst: I am writing today to provide an explanation as to why I filed the National Ready Mixed...

Dissent
The Senate Conservatives Fund, the leadership PAC of South Carolina Senator Jim DeMint, has a beef with the FEC. Specifically, the committee has not filed itemizations of earmarked receipts, and the FEC says that it has to. The committee’s response: As we discussed, the Committee believes that this  itemization is in direct conflict with regulation 104.8, which only requires the itemization...
